Monopoly FAQ 1. Why on earth do you collect Monopoly sets? 2. How did you start collecting them? 3. Any rules in the way you collect them? 5. Where do you buy all your sets?
1. Why on earth do you collect Monopoly sets? It makes a change from stamps, postcards, gnomes etc. 2. How did you start collecting them? I was in Australia during the summer of 1992 and rather than bring home a huge load of tourist tat, I was looking to travel home light and bring back 1 souvenir that would sum up my trip. My cousin Claire picked up on this and bought me an Australian edition Monopoly set. As it turned out I also had to send home 10kgs of tourist tat anyway, but it did get me started and since then, wherever I've travelled I've tried to bring home a Monopoly set. These days I'm rather more successful at the travelling light thing. Then I started to expand to buying other sets as well. 3. Any rules in the way you collect them? If it's a Geographically-related set, I HAVE to have gone there myself (no country/city set presents, thanks!) It encourages me to travel, and makes it more of a challenge! I have to catch up with a lot of the UK regional editions. I collected a lot of the European sets before the Euro appeared, so that makes them more collectible. Another REALLY IMPORTANT thing is that they HAVE to be "proper" Monopoly or officially licensed versions from Hasbro/Waddingtons/Parker Bros, a not just similar looking board game. Not including the "edible editions" which I don't really count, currently I have 94 sets as of January 2006 (not including the edible ones). 5. Where do you buy all your sets? Mostly in the USA and the UK, but from other countries as well (see the list above) In the spare room in our house. Always quite a talking point when we have friends over! Er, not usually. Having so many sets has sort of waned my interest! I have a couple: The Arsenal FC and the Peanuts (Snoopy) editions. |
